Say goodbye to the 80 & 120 km/h speed chime

The chime is mandated in India, and it is genuinely maddening on a highway. Here is how to disable it on a BMW or Mini, safely and reversibly, without voiding your warranty.

In India the speed chime is mandated to promote safety. The intention is good, but the constant chime past 120 km/h is a frequent complaint among drivers. It disrupts focus, reduces driving enjoyment, and becomes genuinely tiring on long highway stretches.

I’ve worked out a proven method to disable these chimes safely. No hardware tampering, no void warranty, just quiet.

Why this method is safe and reversible

Coding process running over an OBD2 adapter

This method never touches secure coding, which means:

  • Your vehicle warranty stays intact.
  • The process is fully reversible, so revert it any time.
  • It’s tested and works on both BMW and Mini models.
